Award Process
1. Nominations and Self-Nominations – By June 15th
Dissertation Awards: Email a 250 word abstract of the candidate’s dissertation to srcdlatinocaucus@gmail.com and indicate the nominee and the award for you which you are nominating/self-nominating.
Early and Mid-Career Awards: Simply email the candidate’s CV to srcdlatinocaucus@gmail.com and indicate the nominee and the award for you which you are nominating/self-nominating.

2. Tier 1 Evaluation– By July 15th
The award subcommittee will review nomination materials and will individually contact nominees that they believe are strong candidates for the award. If contacted, the committee will ask the candidate for additional information depending on the award (e.g., letters of recommendation, copies of 2 articles, references, longer summary of dissertation- 2 pages, single-spaced). Those who are individually contacted will turn in the additional information by September 1st.
3. Awardees – By October 15th
Awardees will be notified by email by October 15th prior to the upcoming SRCD Biennial Conference. They will also be recognized at the SRCD Latinx Caucus Biennial Business Meeting and highlighted on the SRCD Latinx Caucus webpage. Awardees will be issued the financial award the summer following the biennial meeting.
Awardees will be made aware that award prizes will be split in the case of a tie.
Types of SRCD Latinx Caucus Awards
The Latinx Caucus will give three types of awards at the Biennial meeting. These awards are meant to honor work that exemplifies the mission of the Latinx Caucus, which is to promote conceptually, and methodologically rigorous research conducted with Latinx children, youth, and families that represents their (1) diversity, (2) normative development, and (3) inherent strengths (cultural, linguistic, etc.).
Dissertation Awards
The Dissertation Awards will honor two dissertations that were completed within two years prior to the target SRCD Biennial conference. If contacted, the award subcommittee will ask the nominee to send a letter of recommendation by the dissertation committee (i.e., chair) detailing why/how the project exemplifies the mission of the Latinx Caucus. Each candidate must also submit: a short 2-page, single-spaced summary of the dissertation and be an active member of the Latinx Caucus. There is a $500 honorarium associated with this award. ($500 honorarium for each of the two awardees).
Early Career Award
The Early Career Award will honor one active Latinx Caucus member who obtained a PhD within the past 10 years of the target SRCD Biennial conference. If contacted, the award subcommittee will ask the nominee to send a recommendation letter that details why the candidate’s work exemplifies the mission of the Latinx Caucus. In addition, the candidate should submit: an updated CV and two papers that serve as the foundation for the nomination. There is $1000 honorarium associated with this award.
Mid-Career Award
The Mid-Career Award will honor one active Latinx Caucus member who is between 11 to 20 years beyond earning their PhD. If contacted, the award subcommittee will ask the nominee to send a recommendation letter that details why the candidate’s work exemplifies the mission of the Latinx Caucus. There is a $1000 honorarium associated with this award.
